A group of Chinese investors has struck the country’s biggest single investment in a German company, agreeing to buy the Munich-based engineering specialist, KraussMaffei Group, in a ￠925m deal.

The Chinese consortium, which includes China National Chemical Corporation, Guoxin International Investment Corporation and AGIC Capital, will buy the German group from Onex Corporation, a Canadian private equity firm, and its affiliates.

Onex said it had made a $276m investment in KraussMaffei in 2012, and that it expected to receive “proceeds of approximately ￠670m” when the deal completed.

The $1.01bn spent by the Chinese consortium tops the $694m deal in which Sany Heavy Industry and Citic PE Advisors bought the pump manufacturer Putzmeister in 2012, which was previously the largest one-off Chinese investment in Germany.

However, it is less than the roughly $1.7bn that Weichai Power has invested in Kion Group in a series of steps since first buying into the forklift truck manufacturer and its hydraulics subdiary in 2012, according to data from Dealogic.

The KraussMaffei deal, which is expected to complete in the first half of this year, marks the latest example of a Chinese company looking abroad in a bid to hoover up technological expertise from its western peers.

Jianxin Ren, chairman of China National Chemical Corporation, said his group was investing in KraussMaffei’s “strong management team and its technological expertise, which we believe will benefit our Chinese subsidiaries and position the chemical machinery business of ChemChina”.

Frank Stieler, chief executive of KraussMaffei, which makes machines for processing rubber and plastics and had sales of about ￠1.1bn in 2014, said the deal would enable it to speed up its expansion plans in China and the rest of Asia.

一组中国投资者敲定了迄今对德国企业规模最大的一笔投资——同意斥资9.25亿欧元收购总部位于慕尼黑的工程专业公司克劳斯玛菲集团(KraussMaffei Group)。

中国财团此笔10.1亿美元的交易超过了2012年三一重工(Sany Heavy Industry)与中信产业投资基金顾问公司(Citic PE Advisors)耗资6.94亿美元收购混凝土泵制造商普茨迈斯特(Putzmeister)的交易，后者曾为中国在德国规模最大的单笔投资。

然而，Dealogic的数据显示，这笔投资仍不及潍柴动力(Weichai Power)对凯傲集团(KION Group)约17亿美元的一系列投资——潍柴动力自2012年以来几次入股这家德国叉车制造商及其制造液压系统的子公司。

收购克劳斯玛菲的交易预计将于今年上半年完成，这标志着中国公司走出去、从西方同行那里大量获取技术专长的最新实例。

中国化工董事长任建新表示，该集团投资的是克劳斯玛菲“强大的管理团队及其技术专长，我们相信这将使我们的中国子公司获益，并巩固中国化工的化工机械业务”。
