— the Hong Kong solar group that made its majority owner China’s richest man before its stock plunged — has reported the resignation of its financial controller.

In a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange, HTF said Li Guangmin was leaving the company, which was worth almost $40bn until its shares lost half their value in one morning in May. Trading in the stock has since been suspended.

Mr Li, who served as HTF’s financial controller since 2011, “had no disagreement with the board”, the group said.

HTF added that there were no additional details relating to his resignation that had to be provided to the exchange or its investors.

Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission is investigating the nature of HTF’s financial ties with its private parent company, Hanergy Group, which accounted for the majority of the subsidiary’s sales.

Earlier this year, the Financial Times ran a series of articles about Hanergy Group and HTF, raising questions over its business model and the manner in which the latter’s share price had surged in value.

That price rise propelled majority owner Li Hejunto the top of the China rich list complied by Hurun.

HTF had previously relied on its mainland Chinese parent company to buy solar equipment from it, but signed agreements with a few outside customers this year in an effort to assuage doubts over its model.

However, since its share price

collapse, several of these deals

with outside customers have fallen apart.

Since the suspension of share trading, there has been a marked deterioration in HTF’s financial performance, and the company swung to a net loss in the first half of the year.
