【英语财经】阿里巴巴：未来三年向云计算投入10亿美元 Alibaba in $1bn push to copy Amazon cloud success

Alibaba

has announced it will invest $1bn in cloud computing over the next three years as it seeks to emulate the exponential growth of rival Amazon in the sector.

The Chinese ecommerce group is the top cloud computing provider in its home market, with its Aliyun

unit accounting for about 30 per cent market share. The company has begun pushing its cloud services abroad, and earlier this year built its first data centre outside greater China in Silicon Valley, mainly to support Alibaba clients working in the area.

Simon Hu, president of Aliyun, said that cloud computing would “become fundamental infrastructure for new economic development”.

The Hangzhou-based company has been eager to copy Amazon’s success in cloud computing. The US electronic retailer announced that revenue from Amazon Web Services increased 81 per cent year on year to $1.8bn in the quarter ending June 30, while profits from the cloud division soared more than fivefold.

总部位于杭州的阿里巴巴一直渴望复制亚马逊在云计算上的成功。这家美国电子零售商近日宣布，在截止6月30日的季度里，亚马逊网络服务(Amazon Web Services)收入同比增长81%，至18亿美元，而云计算部门的利润飙升了5倍多。
