【英语科技】三星平板电脑销量拟超百万台

Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it aims for sales of its new seven-inch tablet computer to top one million units by year end and is looking to offer other sizes as it seeks a bigger chunk of the market.

Samsung is hoping that the Galaxy Tab device, powered by Google Inc.'s Android operating system, will help it gain competitiveness against Apple Inc. and other tablet rivals.

'Various tablet sizes will be launched by many companies next year. In order to cement our strong presence in the tablet market, Samsung is also preparing other kinds of tablet devices,' J.K. Shin, president of the company's mobile business.

Samsung is working with mobile operator SK Telecom Co. to offer the tablet computer in South Korea starting next week. SK Telecom, which first offered Samsung's Galaxy S smartphone in the domestic market in June, will initially have the exclusive right to sell the Galaxy Tab.

The launch in South Korea comes after Samsung unveiled the device in Europe last month. The device will also be available in Japan and the U.S. starting this month. U.S. wireless carriers will charge $400 for the device with a service contract or $600 without a plan.

Apple has sold at least seven million iPads since launching its touchscreen device in April.

国内发售之前，Galaxy Tab已于上月推向欧洲市场。从本月开始，这款平板电脑还将陆续在日本和美国上市。美国无线运营商对附有服务合同的Galaxy Tab收费400美元，对裸机收费600美元。

苹果自今年4月推出触摸屏平板电脑iPad以来，已累计销售了至少700万部。
