China's Ministry of Commerce described as 'not true' a report in The Wall Street Journal on April 3 that equipment used in enriching uranium that reached Iran had been handled by a representative of a Chinese company.
In a fax to the Journal's Shanghai bureau Wednesday, China's Ministry of Commerce also said the company, Zheijiang Ouhai Trade Corp., a subsidiary of the Wenzhou-based Jinzhou Group, didn't violate export regulations related to nonproliferation. The statement was Beijing's first official response to the article. The Ministry of Commerce offered no explanation for why the statement was made now and not earlier. The company has also denied the report. The Wall Street Journal said it stands by the accuracy of its reporting.
